Mar 19, 2010 · The only primer-related issue I have ever experienced is slam-fires in my M1 Garand from using primers that were too soft (Winchester). So now all my loads for Milsurp semi-autos use CCI and I use my stock of Winchesters for bolt and lever guns. These cartridges should only be fired in rifles capable of handling 5.56 NATO ammunition. Some .223 Remington rifles cannot accommodate the higher pressure of mil-spec cartridges--check with the manufacturer of the firearm if unsure. This ammo uses non-corrosive Boxer primers and reloadable brass cases. The 5.56 chamber is cut a bit longer than .223 to help insure operations in the field in the presence of dirt, etc. 5.56 NATO ammo is also loaded to a higher pressure than .223.
